Applications of Social Network Analysis

In recent years Social Network Analysis (SNA) has increasingly been used as an approach in most scientific disciplines and has gained soaring attention by the public. On one hand this can be seen as a theoretical and methodological shift. On the other hand this rising prominence of SNA in academia, politics, business and our daily lives can be explained due to a change of the objects under investigation. Many entities of our society evolved into networks in which actors are increasingly dependent on their structural embedding. This volume includes selected papers presented at the 3rd conference on “Application of Social Network Analysis” held in October 2006 at the University of Zurich and provides a good overview of the wide spectrum of applications of SNA.
